The Textbook. Reinvented for iPad.

20 Feb

This is an advertisement from Apple for a new innovation to their iBooks app. I mentioned the idea of interactive textbooks in one of my previous posts, and this video helps explains Apple’s vision. It really is exciting, especially when you see some of the giant text book publishers on board and expressing their agreement. Traditionally, they have been hesitant because they did not see the cost benefit to their industry.

Enjoy,
Drew

Sign me up! This is a very engaging tool, we should all have one. Besides that it makes learning fun and adds a depth to what we are learning. Whether it is pictures of the weather, animals, pet stories, math or art it makes the world that much closer.

WOW….this is amazing….wish I had this technology when I was in school- it truly ignites learning for the students and teachers! The 3 features they focused on:

    1. fluid navigation
    2. incredible graphics and
    3. being able to take and use NOTES within the text

supports the ipad and ibooks feature an irresistible tool for learning!

I am going to check out the ibooks store and see if I can purchase my son’s HS textbooks via this app in hopes that he will be MORE engaged in the content he is required to learn thru interactive manipulation.

Did I hear correctly? APPLE and several major publishers merged: Pearson and McGraw Hill…

How this can be used with our kindergartners will need to be explored further- although I love this technology for older children, There is much to be said about handling a book in the primary grades.

    great info-advertisement!

Although this is advertisement for Apple, it is a very well made video and supports the need to have these digital tools in the classroom. ESL teachers and Special education teachers, have always used different tools to differentiate instruction for our students, as it is paramount that we build background and offer visual support as much as possible, in absence of real objects. No question the implementation of this technology and digital textbooks will make this task easy and the learning more powerful. I liked the last comment how exhilarating it is to see a student “get it” and you want to celebrate. It is true that technology cannot substitute a good teacher, but helps teachers perfect lesson delivery and enhance learning in a more powerful way.
