April Faculty Meeting – Rough Transcript

Below is the rough transcript of this month’s podcast.  A few individuals mentioned that it would be helpful in order to follow along with the audio.  Beneath this text is a comment form to post any questions you may have regarding the content of the audio.  Only Ralene and I will see your questions.

We expect everyone to have listened to this podcast by Friday, 4/6, to ensure we are all on the same page and up to date.

UDL and Video Guidelines:

The goal of education in the 21st century is not simply the mastery of content knowledge or use of new technologies. It is the mastery of the learning process. Education should help turn novice learners into expert learners—individuals who want to learn, who know how to learn strategically, and who, in their own highly individual and flexible ways, are well prepared for a lifetime of learning. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) helps educators meet this goal by providing a framework for understanding how to create lessons that meets the needs of all learners from the start.

EMT Updates

Thank you for working to ensure a successful building evacuation during our last fire drill.  The fire department was appreciative of how quickly we vacated the building.  Please pay close attention to the next map and EMT handout that will be distributed in the near future.  It may contain changes to your assignements.

Welcome to Maria Johnson

Maria will be Kim Newcomb’s long term substitute.

General Annoucements

All students should be directed to walk down the MIDDLE of the hallway, using the phrase “Hands on backpacks, Watch + Walk!”  Teachers can instruct students in the classroom, following the demo by Second Grade helpers at the assembly on Friday.  Hall Duty people should enforce this for safety.

Students should not be sent to the computer lab to retrieve copies from the color printer.  Students were found standing on a chair to reach the printer.  Also, please check to make sure there is plenty of paper in the printer.  Peter is not always there to check the supply.

Congratulations Maryann

Hippo Readers’ Best of 2012

We are pleased to announce that Maryann Boucher was elected as the Manchester area’s Best Teacher K-12.  According to the Hippo Press, “Winners for the Best of 2012 were picked by the readers. Readers wrote in their picks for best swimming hole and best yoga studio and then counted the votes. There were no nominees, no drop-down menu of choices, no editors’ picks.  ‘Best of the best’ goes to the person, place or thing that received the most votes in any given category.”  Congratulations Maryann!
